My carrier has a prepaid that is 20 bucks a month and has unlimited text and if you use the phone to call it runs 25 cents a min out of the 20 bucks. You might want to look for a prepaid option like this, also nice is there is no contract or credit check because it prepaid.
Veta Slicker: You can buy a phone without a plan. However, text messaging is an add-on to a plan. You can't have a stand alone text messaging phone. If you're interested in text messaging, you will need to get a plan on your phone. T-Mobile has great plans and service if you're within their coverage area. For Example if you go to Best Buy or one of the retailers like that, you can get it but if you want a Motorola Razor you will pay 299.99 plus tax and have to use what ever provider when you are ready to sign up. And to answer your question about the 2 phones is that it is a joint contract. I am joined with my mom and my brother and dad are on another one. It is called shared minutes plan. You both share the minutes with someone else. Cell to cell are free but any land lines and daytime minutes are billable after you use up your 500 shared minutes. I think the one that I have runs 40 a month for two phones. Your best bet is finding a phone that you like and someone else likes and signing up.
