Karl Samiec: I understand your point of view. A lot of people run across the same problem. The reason Catholics get married inside church is because it is to be done in the house of the Lord. God marries you and blesses the marriage. Church is to be in communion and that's why the mass gather in celebration of the sacraments including marriage. Church is suppose to be your home and the center of your faith. If you want a Catholic wedding I would recommend doing what the teachings teach and have it inside church. The Priest at my parish said that since many couples like the idea of an outdoor wedding they recommend renewing your vows outdoors. Many do it right afterwards. This way you can still get what you want. Congrats!Oh, and on average marriage prep takes anywhere from all in one weekend to 6 months. It depends on how the parish decides to teach the course. My church meets every sunday for four weeks. My cousin's church meets twice a week and they finish sooner....Sho! w more
Johnnie Pummill: The Catholic church will not perform weddings outside of their walls. You can find reformed priests who will do that for you but it won't be recognized by the church at all.
Rose Krouse: It is a matter of Canon Law that weddings are to be held in the Church proper. The priest has no choice in the matter other than to either follow the laws of the Church or to take off on his own and be a loose cannon. Sadly, some priests do the latter. If you found a priest who was willing to ignore the authority of the Church regarding the place of the wedding, that would not make your marriage invalid, though disobeying the laws of the Church is not a very good way to enter into a Catholic marriage. However, a priest who is willing to disobey the rules in one way may very well break the rules in other ways (such as using unapproved marriage vows), and some changes could make your marriage invalid. I wouldn't risk dealing with a priest who doesn't do it ! "by the book".....Show more
Boyce Gilhooly: Matrimony is! a SACRAMENT. That means it's not about making you happy. It's about serving the Lord. And it's not about your picturesque setting -- it's about forging a permanent, three-way covenant between man, woman and God. So the Church wants Jesus to be there in the Eucharist. And if you remember from your confirmation and first communion classes, you can't just go taking the Eucharist for a walk. It is Jesus in a helpless state, and He must be properly cared for. Hence, that's why the Sacrament of Matrimony is always performed in a church.Does that restriction bother you? If it does, it's only because you consider it a restriction. Instead, you should be considering the privilege of having Jesus physically present in your marriage ceremony. If you truly love Him, you would consider Him your most honored guest and you'd go anywhere just to have Him there. Some Catholic churches are outdoors -- there is one in Santa Monica, Cal., for example. Some diocese have outdoor settings that a! re sanctioned for the use in Sacramental rites. If you have options like that, then you can have your outdoor wedding, though not in whatever setting you have already picked out.Consider the option of marrying in the Church, but having your reception at that outdoor setting. Or if you weren't going to have your reception there, then have your rehearsal dinner in your outdoor setting. Have your engagement pictures and wedding portraits done there as well. But have a REAL Catholic wedding in a real Catholic church....Show more
Cuc Gire: The reason that Catholic priests will only perform weddings inside a church is because marriage is considered a sacrament. A baptism would never be held outside a church; nor a confirmation or a first communion. The Catholic Church generally does not recognize marriages performed outside a church, because in the eyes of God, the sacrament has not been solemnized.
Kim Gerbino: No outdoor wedding rites. Got to be in the House of Go! d. Go for a civil outdoor and then get married in the church again.
