Esmeralda Pigram: Okay, let's start with the Dell.1. Right click on "My Computer". Choose "Properties".2. Click on the "Computer Name" tab.3. Click on the "Change" tab.4. Make the computer's name something easy to remember.5. Type in a workgroup name. "Workgroup" (without the quotes) works fine. Some Dells have a default workgroup name of "MSHOME" which is also fine.6. Click "OK"7. Clost the system properties screen by clicking "OK".8. Reboot the Dell Computer.Now for the Laptop.1. Click the Start Pearl (what used to be the start button in the bottom left).2. Click on "control Panel".3. Double! click "System".4. On the left hand side, click on "Advanced System Properties".5. Click the "Computer Name" tab near the top.6. Click "Change".7. Change the names. Just make sure the workgroup name is the same as on your older Dell.8. Click "OK"9. Restart the computer.Now, let's network your printer.You'll have to make sure that the printer is shared on the Dell computer.1. Click "start".2. Click "control panel".3. Double click "printers and faxes".4. Right click on your printer and then choose "sharing...".5. You may see an underlined sentence that says "If you understand the security risks but want to share printers without running the wizard, click here." Click that sentence.Click "Just enable printer sharing" and then "OK".6. Click "Share this printer".7. Change the printer name to something easy to remember (like HP2110).8. Click "OK".9. Goto your Vista laptop.10. Click the start pearl.11. In the search area type \[name of the dell][name of printer]example: \olddellhp! 211012. The computer may prompt asking if it's okay to connect! and download drivers from the sharing computer. Just click "OK".OR 13. You may need updated drivers. You can download those at www.hp.com/go/windowsvista if you have to download the drivers, stop trying to share now and then run the installer for the printer. When the installer is done (at one point it may ask you to connect the printer to the computer, just check the box that states you cannot attach the printer now) go back to step 10 to connect the printer.14. If the computer is having problems connecting to the printer on the Dell, just try typing \[nameofdell] you should see the printer show up in a folder. Double click that printer and it should install.15. After installing the printer. Goto the printers folder on the Vista computer and make it the default printer. (click start, control panel open the printers and other hardware section and then goto the printers section. Right click on the printer and choose to make it the default printer.
