What makes a good graphic design?

Buster Exline: I don't think that there are any "steps" but i would google the 12 elements of design. It includes Color,Shape, Line, Rhythm, Positive and Negative space, etc. Here is a website that i found that lists all twelve elements. My design teacher has us doing 12 different projects each incorporating one or more elements. Each one has one like core element and then the others just fall into place.http://www2.smumn.edu/stupages/~ltmoen00/12elem.pd...that is a pdf format which you need Adobe Acrobat to read it. Hope this helps!...Show more

Patrick Bitsui: Very broad question with many correct answers. When it comes to ads, the design has to be clean, uncluttered, eye catching, and get the message across in 10 seconds. People are not going to spend more than 10 seconds trying to figure out what the point of an ad is.I design by the principle "less is more"....Show more

Clemmie Burkleo: this is an EXTREMELY BROAD question. A lot goes into what a good desi! gn is....Things that are looked at include:Color, Typography, Composition, Execution, How it relays to the viewer, how successful the message is, and how well you accomplished your client's goals, and achieved their vision based on their needs and requirements. There are no set steps, however there are many different processes designers go through to get great design. Its not something you can put into simple words, but something learned through practice in the design industry. Many people think that its easy to be a designer, or easy to call yourself a designer because you play around with the software that pro's use, however this is not the case. There is a lot that goes into the industry, from proper business practices, to software execution. Great designers went through a creative design program and studied it extensively, those are how great designers became successfull.
