Global warming??yo!?

Josefine Weekey: Its hotter so therefore, more hurricanes form in that the warm mixes with the cold more and yah, sucks

Donnie Bolio: Look here:http://www.usatoday.com/weather/research/2007-04-1...

Cletus Makler: no NOT AT ALL

Darwin Ecton: please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Roni Kurz: Here - I won't be insulting and rude. The post above should be reported. It has to be tough to believe in something that is so wrong so often. With record cold and snow this early in the season, the worst is sure to be around the corner.

Cornelius Thornborrow: kay, so im olny 14 and im assuming this is for a school project??yeah lol its okay we all do it...So, when hurricanes begin form, they rely on water, heat and cold, beacause global warming is causing our oceans to heat up immensly, the heat is there, but so much more powerful, causing the hurricane to be much more devastating....Show more

Elmo Tervo: This should be just enough f! or your ?'s

Gwenda Micheals: Some gases ("greenhouse gases") let sunlight in, which warms the Earth, and then block that heat from leaving. That's the "greenhouse effect", and it's a natural thing, mostly caused by water vapor.Man is making excessive amounts of greenhouse gases, mostly by burning fossil fuels. That causes the delicate natural balance to go out of whack and the Earth warms. That's global warming. It won't be a Hollywood movie style disaster. Gradually coastal areas will flood and agriculture will be damaged. But it will be very bad. Rich countries will cope, but it will take huge amounts of money. In poor countries many people will die of starvation, but not all of them. Most scientists say, in 20-50 years. But we need to start right now to fix it, fixing it will take even longer than that.Really good website for more information here:http://www.nrdc.org/globalWarming/f101.aspLots of numerical scientific data proving it real here:http://en.wikipedia.org/! wiki/Image:Climate_Change_...http://www.ipcc.ch/pdf/assessment! -report/ar4/wg1/a...Proof that most scientists think it's real and mostly caused by us here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_opinion_on...http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/full/306/570......Show more

Octavio Roylance: It's a pagan doomsday cult.

Ruby Martis: it probably isntthey predicted that it would go up in # of hurricanes but it didn't at allal gore is a fagggggg...Show more

Jeannetta Gaffigan: Don't make fun of Michael, his mama's restaurant is being taken away by the hippies. http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Av...Seriously though, to the asker of the question, are you that self-centered and ignorant to think that your city (wherever you are) is representative of the entire planet Earth? Furthermore, are you that closed minded to think a single winter is enough to counteract a 150-year trend? Read a book and shut up.

Lon Pennington: type it into Goodsearch, dont listen to random ppl on here. Theres thousands of websit! es about it

Abraham Ladick: Michael have you considered that you get all these thumbs down because you keep posting rubbish that isn't even remotely related to science questions that could not possibly be classed as skeptical, just silly.i.e.http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ak...http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Aq...

Rosann Mccomb: I only have these facts! I need more and short because its for a powerpoint.Increase in average temperatureClimate change

Troy Monsivais: Intensity of ~1%. Nothing to do with frequency.

Corrinne Ruozzo: Well must be! because i'm bieng called a denier every comment i make here and my thumbs down button goes nuts! GW has caused me soo much damage! my thumbs down button is broken! and i hardly get any thumbs up! WHY WHY?

Michelle Sohre: No it is because the sun is in a low activity stage right now and the ozone layer is rebuilding itself because the solar wind is currently weak. This allows! the earth to cool and real scientists to worry because low activity su! n spot cycles mean lower temperatures. We need to watch and wait to see if this is a short break in solar activity or if it will resume next year.

Willetta Munhall: The inventor of AL Gore.

Marcellus Exler: Global warming is the increase in earth's average temperature. People believe this is caused by mankind burning fossil fuels which create CO2 and is being released into the atmosphere. CO2 is known as a greenhouse gas. A greenhouse gas is something in the atmosphere which takes the suns heat and traps it into the earth. Most greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is water vapor - a natural greenhouse gas. We need greenhouse gases in the earth to make it a livable planet. If we didn't have any, we would freeze to death. The point is, people believe we are making to much greenhouse gases and will cause major changes in the earth. There will be a domino effect of changes, I'm horrible at explaining things so follow me closely on this: First, there will be record drou! t, stronger hurricanes and storms. Sea levels will rise about 50 feet in about 80 years. We will face food suply shortages, unhealthy water and econmoic failures. The trees will stop producing oxygen and release the CO2 it absorbs which will cause the earth to get even hotter. The oceans world wide will begin to evaporate which will cause there to be more water vapor in the atmosphere (a greenhouse gas too). So basically earth will be unlivable if we don't fix this....Show more

Erica Bottaro: It always get colder when you're about to die.Now seriously, I believe is a good thing to take care of the environment but just don't force others into a lifestyle. I believe in personal freedom. If you want to buy a gun, feel free to buy one. If you want to abort, feel free to abort. If you want to drive a car, feel free to drive a car. And if you want any of those things, then don't get them.Don't take sides, just think, think, think, use your brains, question your beliefs, its! ok to be wrong, its ok to change your opinion if you find something th! at makes more sense.

Isaias Badgley: GW is a scam and it is costing U. The oil Co. are using it as an excuse to raise the price of oil.

Glynda Darrin: Global warming is a lie perpetrated to extort money from people.

Myron Leftwich: well in review, it seems to be a mixed bag, as here scientist in higher circles have found reasons to think so, then others have found ways to pick holes in there theories...that being said, I lived in FL for a while, and the weather channel said that they were increasing, both in size, and number...they have a naming system, and they have been naming many more storms recently.

Adan Stribble: This year it seems the cold hasnt gone away here in Chicago, illinois when its supposed to be warm around the 60's when its like still 30-40's mostly. Either global warming is causing shifts in wind currents making the weather change in places or just something that just happend and is normal.

Heidy Fujikake: JessicaOne problem w! ith global warming is that the concept is so vague in the minds of the people. The critical interpretation is basically how it’s explained in school and the news. However most of the public see global warming connected with the ozone and pollutants which cause harmful greenhouse gasses, etc. therefore investigating and fighting for things like alternative energy (ie. Solar, wind, hydrogen, ethanol, biodiesel, etc)Greenhouse gases are real and do contribute to global warming. Think of the different gas layers like ozone (o3) that circumference the globe as the clear plastic on a greenhouse. Longer rays of light from the Sun go in and reflect off different thermal masses bouncing back and creating shorter lengths of energy that cannot exist the plastic barrier. These beams then just continue to bounce around inside the green house until they’re finally absorbed completely (some do escape but very few), thereby warming the greenhouse greatly even in cold temperatures.Basic! ally there are 2 ways that this reaction (or lack of) affects the plane! t. Global warming and global cooling.1. as we add to the gases in the stratosphere, where the ozone layer is (Carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, etc), we add to the plastic of the greenhouse, trapping more short wave length energy and heating the earth more.2. as we deplete the ozone (with chlorofluorocarbons or CFCs), we allow more long wave length energy, which bounces back out to space without heating any thermal masses on earth, thereby cooling the planet. It’s pretty easy to see the results..Melting ice sheets & glaciersFloods & droughtsGreat hurricanes & cyclonesSeasonal extremesSeasonal phenomena’sSpecies extinctionNew & resurgent diseasesThere are many ways to stop both global warming and cooling from accruing or at least slow them down until we can discover a way to reverse it, but Stop burning fossil fuels is the biggest.I currently own 2 converted h2 vehicles which run on 100% hydrogen and 1 EV (electric vehicle), not to mention our home is completely off the gr! id, using alternative energy (solar, wind, etc)If you interested in DIY alternative fuels / energy info, or step by step guides to walk you threw Green living do a google search for agua-luna alternative energyHope this helped, feel free to contact me personally if you have any questions,Dan MartinRetired Boeing Engineer now living 100% Off-the-Grid with my family, using Alternative Energy & loving every minute.for more info visit agua-luna com...Show more

Virgil Menefee: I assume you are in the U.S. and if so isn't Dec 1 the first day of your winter, are you making a physic prediction what the winter will be like!

Zelma Casebier: it is kinda like the freon destroying the ozone layer above the south pole. it was not the holes were caused by sun spots but it took years to prove it was sun spots. you have a hard time getting freon today. why this created a huge government empire and they tax you to pay for it. we need less government not more.

Antone Youla! : Put simply, it's a theory. It states that the Earth is warming unnat! urally do to mankind's influence. That influence is both industrial and private in terms of waste products. Our air, water and soil are "damaged". Our air is damaged in such a way that too many harmful rays from the sun get in. Also not enough heat from the sun can get out into space. It is trapped like in a green house. Well, that is the theory. Pollute and pay for it.You should be aware that it is only a theory at this point. People are indeed having an impact on the environment. The nature of that impact has not been determined though many will have you believe they speak only the truth. The fact is that they don't know. We've only been making a significant impact for around 100 years. The last 30 are notable in particular. If the alarmists are correct, then we don't have time to know for certain. Otherwise, the Ice Age ended...because of man? No. It ended quite naturally. The dinosaurs became extinct because of man? No. Again quite naturally they died! . Our situation has never before happened in history. Good luck sorting out the truth....Show more

Donte Liversedge: The greenhouse effect is quite simply that the earth does not re-radiate as much energy as strikes it. This is caused by various factors including 'greenhouse gasses' (the much maligned carbon dioxide is an example), albedo, suspended particulate matter...Prevention is not possible. Pollution prevention is, so stop warming your car for 30 minutes, walk when you can, make one trip do the work of many, use a manual lawn mower rather than a power mower (I do that on 2 acres so you can bloody well do it on your postage stamp sized city lawn), lights tv and computers off when not in use..you get the picture. Here is truth about global warming:Global warming is one-half of the climatic cycle of warming and cooling. The earth's mean temperature cycles around the freezing point of water. This is a completely natural phenomenon which has been going on since the! re has been water on this planet. It is driven by the sun.Our planet is! currently emerging from a 'mini ice age', so is becoming warmer and may return to the point at which Greenland is again usable as farmland (as it has been in recorded history). As the polar ice caps decrease, the amount of fresh water mixing with oceanic water will slow and perhaps stop the thermohaline cycle (the oceanic heat 'conveyor' which, among other things, keeps the U.S. east coast warm). When this cycle slows/stops, the planet will cool again and begin to enter another ice age. It's been happening for millions of years. The worrisome and brutal predictions of drastic climate effects are based on computer models, NOT CLIMATE HISTORY. As you probably know, computer models are not the most reliable of sources, especially when used to 'predict' chaotic systems such as weather.Global warming/cooling, AKA 'climate change':Humans did not cause it.Humans cannot stop it....Show more

Johnnie Pummill: what exactly is the greenhouse effect and what causes itwhat are some ! ways to prevent itand finally what are some good sites to go to to get some good info??!!!

Manie Labat: Some ways to prevent global warming is to not pollute in the air. RECYCLE! And my cousin (this is a true fact) watched 60 minutes (cause her dad made her) and it talked about global warming. She said if we don't stop our pollution all the animals that live in the Artic will DIE! Like polar bears. They spend most of their days on land, except for fishing. If they don't have enough ice to put fish on and sit on the polar bears will have to swim a long time to find some land and they might die because they are tired and from drowning. I don't know what the green house effect is. Sorry! But we must start recycling and stop polluting the air. I think because our atmosphere is like a bubble and our pollution is "trapped" and that causes heat and melting the glaciers and ice in the Artic! Well, this is kinda long but this is very important!...Show more

Kimberlee Bow! dish: It isn't. Hurricane and other tropical storms haven't gotten any ! more intense or more frequent as the IPCC and Al Gore predicted. The oceans have not heated up immensely and if they do it will because the air above them warms them, oceans do not get warm due to sunlight or have you never gotten into an unheated pool on a cold but sunny day? None of the countless predictions made by global warming advocates have come true so now they call it climate change, so that if it gets colder or a volcano erupts, they can claim credit for knowing it would happen. The day global warming stops will be the day the ice age returns and then you'll have some actual problems to face, not just fantasy from the minds of politicians who distort the work of scientists eager for research grants....Show more

Antonia Mogg: http://www.gardenerresource.com/global-warming/how...How Does Global Warming Effect The Weather Global warming and the resulting climate change is a threat to mankind. These impacts have been adversely affecting public health, fo! od security, agriculture, water resources and most importantly the planet’s biodiversity. More frequent and powerful cyclones and hurricanes, more frequent and intense floods and droughts are clear indications that climate change has already begun. Apart from extreme weather conditions, global warming is also responsible for causing global glacier decline, sea level rise, scarcity of freshwater resources and threatens human health. Even the ecosystems and species are in peril. The potential impacts of global warming on global weather patterns are explained below: * Extreme weathers and weather related events such as flooding, drought, wild fires, heat waves, and tropical cyclones are expected to occur even more frequently and to become even more intense. This will definitely result in serious consequences for human health and well being of living creatures. * Extreme and rapid changes in temperature would affect the length of various seasons, cau! sing disruption in the life cycles of many plants and animals. For inst! ance, shorter winters could reduce the feeding periods for young birds and availability of worms or insects for food. A change in length of seasons is also responsible for earlier egg laying in birds and earlier flowering of plants than usual. Even there are some mammals which are breaking their hibernation sooner than usual. * More frequent droughts and floods would adversely affect local food production. Mountainous regions would face an increased risk of floods caused by melting glaciers and this would subsequently affect the health, agriculture and water availability for the people residing over these mountainous regions. Heat waves, frequent cyclones and floods, prolonged periods of drought, food scarcity…. The list is endless. Climate change is indeed sounding the death knell! Nations must therefore develop effective responses and mechanisms to cope with the potential threats from climate change....Show more

Nikita Schroepfer: No, in fact contrary ! to the mass media there is quite a bit of compelling evidence to suggest that what we think we are seeing as global warming is in fact a natural climatic cycle that is operating on a very long time frame. That is not to say that human activity is not creating an impact and that we should be better stewards of our habitat. Weather is a very complex phenomenon that the best minds and supercomputers have yet to understand. A bad winter or hot summer for that matter, is sort of something you will need to accept.

Charline Granes: I've heard there is global cooling now. The last winter was colder than usual.

Azalee Ahrendes: I have no doubt we are in the midst of a global warming. Or, as I prefer to call it, spring

Lita Thammorongsa: Damn you global warming! DAMN YOU!

Robt Heemstra: As a former skeptic myself, it's really getting ridiculous that people are still denying that global warming exists and is, to some degree and possibly to a great degree, ! man-made.George Bush even stated in his State of the Union address that! we need to "increase the use of environmentally friendly technologies to "confront the serious challenge of global climate change". So even he now admits that global climate change is real and a "serious" challenge. One of the hottest agendas in Congress right now is to decide on which new regulations they will pass in order to further reduce greenhouse gases. That agenda is being led by Representative John Dingell (D-MI), chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and another former skeptic.Newt Gingrich and Pat Robertson, both former skeptics are now aggressively promoting their belief in the dangers of global climate change. It's getting more and more difficult for the non-believers to find any scientist with credentials to back their cause as their numbers have dwindled to a itsy-bitsy few.The reason that the former big oil and coal politicians are coming out of the woodwork to become believers is because the evidence is now overwhelming. They'll soon look like ! fools if they don't admit to the evidence. But even if you still don't believe, why shouldn't we be looking for clean, alternative ways to generate power and operate our vehicles. No one denys that fossil fuels won't last forever either and many of the new reserves will be much harder and more expensive to exploit. There may be enough crude oil for another 100 or more years but it will be $7.00, $10.00, $25.00 per gallon! Do you really want to stick with that?Much of the rest of the world is changing. The nations that move now will be the ones selling windmills, nuclear power plants, geothermal technologies, and solar power generating plants to everyone else. You really have only one choice. Your grandchildren will be getting their power from either a solar plant built here at home or one built by workers from somewhere else.Resisting the inevitable is just crazy!...Show more
