David Boehler: StraightCatholicNeither, I believe that the state should not play a role in defining marriage for anyone (I think gay marriage should be "legal", but would be happier if the government didn't define it at all, for anyone.)

Bernadette Roel: Heterosexual. I don't orientate to anything, it is biological necessary for the survival of the human race. My reproductive system was made by God via biology to be a heterosexual.Christian. That has nothing to do with it. Because my ovaries and uterus are not Christian. Just the same as a man's penis and sperm are not Christian. But you need a sperm (from a man) and eggs (from a female) to get life. Nope. I support that a committed partnership should have rights. But those rights doesn't have to be under the guise of marriage....Show more

Lucille Saetteurn: I've done nothing to apologize for. I have traced my ancestral lines back to people who were in this country before it was discovered by the Europeans. I also count among my ancestors many who came from Europe in the mid-late 1500's. Some may have owned slaves but some came here as indentured servants and there were even a couple of slaves included in there. But none of that matters today because whatever their role, they helped to build this great nation and I take pride in what their blood, sweat, and tears produced as a country. So, I resent these so-called government representatives using time I've paid them to take care of today's business to avoid that business under the guise of voicing a worthless and unappreciat! ed apology to people who are: 1.) Ungrateful for the opportunities that having their ancestors brought here has provided them and fail to recognize that had they not been brought here, even as slaves, most of their ancestors would not have survived the tribal wars of their own people and if they had, they could easily be counted among the starving in Africa today. 2.) Are so blinded by their unwarranted hatred for "the white man" that they can't see that they're handing their children over to an owner far worse than any of their ancestors knew. 3.) Are ignorantly running in droves to join the ranks of and bow down to the descendants of those who facilitated the tribal wars in Africa 400 years ago and sold their ancestors into slavery in the first place because they refused to bow to them. And these are people who are STILL enslaving and slaughtering their extended families in Africa. If anything, they owe us an apology for not appreciating the fact that our ancestors didn't! ship them all back to wherever they came from when slavery in the U.S.! became illegal. Beyond that, this stupid apology was nothing but a political message intended to tell the lazy and ungrateful, "vote us into power and we'll give you goodies". Fortunately, I know far too many who are too intelligent to fall for any of it so I know it's not a "racial thing"....Show more

Sammy Hatzenbihler: Big government/limited government are just sound bytes to distract people from the deeper question. The debate between republicans and democrats is not a debate about big government vs small government. After all each of them wants government involved in some areas and uninvolved in others. Republicans and conservatives want bigger government when it comes to defense and social issues like abortion and homosexuality. Democrats want bigger government when it comes to the market and fiscal issues like regulations on lending and labor rights. The great genius of the co! nstitution is that it's less of a document about what the government should do and more of a document about how the government should do it. When the founding fathers sought to establish a limited government they weren't trying to limit the governments power so much as they were trying to limit the means by which the government exerts that power. Whether government is big or small is no difference as long as it represents the will of the people. A representative government is nothing but a tool to be used by the people it represents. If the government is big and powerful, then the people have a big and powerful tool. If the government is small ind impotent then the people have a small and impotent tool. As long as government remains a tool in the hands of the people then the issue is moot. Perhaps you may argue that the government is not as subject to the will of the people as I have stated but that's a different issue entirely. To debate that is to debate the merits of dem! ocracy itself which is bound to be a much more complicated issue....Sho! w more

Feel free to keep sending me those private emails while blocking ones that I might send to you.As far as you telling me to "live with it" since gay marriage is not legal...that's not terribly hard since I'm hetero and I live in Texas. Caterina Yeargan: If it helps a situation, I do not mind aplogizing to someone for something that wasn't even my fault, if it helps, but do you think apologizing for slavery HELPS anything? Or is it a validation to many who already feel/act as though they are owed something? NONE of my ancestors enslaved another human of any race, should myself and every other white person be expected to apologize/be apologetic for crimes they didn't commit? To a people they never knew? Should people of color today expect an apology for tresspasses they have not endured (slavery)? These are valid questions, thank you for your valid answers....Show more
